Dear Fellow Rotarians:
During my administration this year I will place emphasis on involving ourselves in projects of the highest value to society and to the Club. My leadership role in this Club is not merely to chair meetings and discuss where the Club wishes to go or what it wishes to do. It is my goal to give all Club members positive reinforcement for service and/or vocational projects which we develop within the Club as being important and relevant. In all things, I accept what you are willing to give.
Shortly, I and the Service Projects Committee will present a plan for service projects for the coming year. I urge you to discuss the recommendations that will be presented amongst yourselves so that we all have the same line of site on our goals. Throughout the year, at the beginning of each quarter in fact, we will have a Club assembly after board meetings to review board activity, to discuss goals, current events, and our action plans for positive results in projects undertaken. In my Rotary Assignment Sheet for 2009-2010 I have identified these meetings as “Business,” on the dates specified.
In all events, we should let the public know what we are doing and urge public participation in our efforts. Involving others outside of Rotary as well as members in Rotary creates a greater critical mass of energy and increases the probability that we will be successful in achieving our goals. Moreover, growth in our membership is important. The business and professional community, especially in the 30-40 age range, must be engaged more directly. Ideas for making progress on this particular membership goal should be directed to me or to any board member.
There is quite a bit that one sees in Melrose that has been built, improved, supported or served in some way by Melrose Rotary. Rotary exists so that we may make a difference, which begins in our community, but we can and ought to extend our reach to wherever we wish to go.
Ted Craft
President, Melrose Rotary 2009-2010
